Lt Col. Ceryl Johns
From our first project with Col Johns, we have had outstanding, fascinating experiences.
Some highlights are that he:
- Bought his mother from Wales to plant the first dogwood tree in what is now the Rosie the Riveter Park in St. Albans, WV. He brought her again to meet other Rosies and community members. He helped us arrange an interview of her and another woman who worked in a defense factory in England during the war so that American Rosies could now women in England with jobs like theirs.
- Brought the wing of a Corsair Airplane to Charleston, WV, where we are currently headquartered, so that Rosies could see the signature of other Rosies who built Corsairs in Akron could see the wing and be honored for their excellent work in cutting the metal and riveting the wings.
- Planted a dogwood tree in Camden, SC, and arranged for us to speak to many children in his county schools
- Was Master of Ceremonies at the naming of a government building, “The Rosie the Riveter Complex”.
- Has been a speaker several times at events held by “Thanks!” about the quality work done by Rosies, with photos.
Col. Johns is now in charge of a squadron in Camden that is rebuilding a WWII aircraft, which will be called “The Rosie the Riveter”.
He was born in Wales, started as a British Royal Navy Seaman, came to the US in 2003 as 2nd Lt. Civil Air Patrol/US Air Force, and became Lt. Col SC State Guard 2015.
